Black Soldier Fly Larvae Production - BSFL

Summary : The project will consider the feasibility of rearing black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) using their larvae to primary supplement fish and livestock feed. Consideration will also be given for the utilisation of the larvae castings as organic fertilizer.

Challenge: The problems are high cost of fishmeal, soya and disposal of organic waste in the refugee camps (Nakivale Refugee Camp).

Solution: This project will help in reducing the cost of protein used in animal feed, black soldier fly converts organic waste into protein and fertilizer. This helps with waste management and boost the production of crops, fish and livestock farming while ensuring the well-being of refugees.

Long-Term Impact: This project is a sustainable farming method.
